Awesome erotica for awesome adults only
There’s been a huge boom in erotica over the past few years, driven largely by a female audience and female authors who decided they wanted to both read and write stories with lots of steamy sex scenes in them. This can only be described as good thing.
Tellingly, though, erotica has been around for ages. Porn has accidentally driven a lot of technologies. Think of the camera. As soon as someone realized they could take photographs of people and things it was a very short time before someone else realized they could use that technology to take pictures of naked women. Similar things happened with video. It wasn’t long before people realized they could have films of naked women and before long a whole new genre – what we now think of of the adult film industry – was born. It could even be argued that the first instances of serious security on the Internet were driven by adult sites that had found a new way to distribute their wares and wanted a way to make sure they got paid for their work.
Shoot forward a few years (okay, over a decade) and Amazon drops the Kindle in everyone’s laps and opens up Kindle Direct Publishing. Now anyone can write anything they want without fear of finding a publisher. Again, a good thing. In a traditional publisher-driven world it’s doubtful stories like Conquered By Clippy, any of the huge amount of Bigfoot Erotica, or anything I’ve written would have seen the light of day. You’ll have to decide for yourself whether that’s a good thing or a bad thing.
But it wasn’t always this way. There was a time when there were entire publishers dedicated to putting out erotica (which was largely called smut back then) and if you wanted a book you usually had to go to some seedy place, wade through an ocean of dildos and bad pictures, and contend with a group of people who only wore the legs of their cutoff shorts to find some smut.
Now, thankfully, you can find whatever sexy stories you want right from the comfort of your couch.
There are those who say this has caused a drastic downturn in quality, but I have to respectfully disagree with them. Sure, there’s some crap out there, but some truly amazing works have been released as well. So, if you write erotica and you’re reading this, take a moment to pat yourself on the back; you’re doing a great thing by helping to break some of the Puritanical nonsense that runs this country. If you’re a reader, keep reading, we need you and appreciate you.
So, just to show you a thing or two, here’s some classic erotica from magazines back in the 1930s. Bear in mind, these were edited stories, submitted to a board and approved. Is the quality any better? Personally, I don’t think so, but you can judge for yourself. Mostly I just found covers, but there are some snippets of stories in there, too.
